Hi folks, I'm breaking with tradition here and leaving an answer to a question I received in a comment recently. I'm answering it as a post not just because the writer didn't leave me with a return address (no biggie) but because I have been asked this question several times by bloggers using the Picasa 2 and Hello software. Some people, for whatever reason just can't get this suite of programs - all free I might add - to work on their systems and they want to know how I manage to.
I wish I could tell you. I have no idea why some people have troubles where I do not. I can tell you that I have relatively new PCs - none are more than 18 months old and I am diligent about keeping them clean of spyware and such. I don't use any file sharing programs that could inadvertently infect my computer with malicious programs. I don't install questionable software and my antivirus software is a commercial program that I keep up to date, every day. I also keep my windows software up to date, having recently installed Service Pack 2 on all my XP systems.
Generally speaking, and I don't work for Google, if someone is having problems with Hello, or Picasa, or Blogger, it is more than likely a problem with the individuals machine, and not the software - although one also has to account for incompatibilities between other installed software programs and those can be difficult to track down. Sometimes, one needs to purge their computers of all the accumulated software that runs in the background and in the system tray before they can really tell what the problems might be. For instance, I use two programs (Konfabulator and Window Blinds) and these two programs are notorious for getting in the way of other software installs, so along with my antivirus software, they too are closed down before I install anything new - including the suite of programs we are talking about here.
This may be a long way of saying "I don't know" but since I am not doing anything more than installing the software and running it as it was designed to run, I can't see that there could be any other reason for it not working similarly on everybody else's machine.
Sorry I 'm not of much help. For me, the software just works, and works really well.
I encourage everyone who uses the software to visit the forums; the Hello and Picasa guys are not the greatest at solving posted problems, but they try, and other users can be of great help as well.
Cheers!

thanx for your answer.
my computer is a waste land of old no name software.
how stupid i am!
Not stupid at all actually. I suffered the same problems and finally gave up and started fresh (getting a new PC helped) and I've had to be very good about keeping the garbage off my system. So much is so tempting, it's hard to resist.
Anytime you want to install a new piece of software, always empty everything you can from your system tray - including your antivirus software - and you will at least give yourself a fighting chance at a clean install that works. And always reboot after an install, no matter what the vendors says, reboot anyway.
Cheers!
