Mercora is the latest incarnation of file sharing services to hit the internet.
Like other file sharing software, Mercora is Pear to Pear (P2P) meaning the files you access through the Mercora network are actually sitting on the hard drive of someone else. The difference, and what makes this file sharing program legal, is that you don't actually download the music file, you just listen to it.
There are about 100,000 users on the Mercora network to date, with about 200,000 to 300,000 songs available for listening to at any one time.
The software and service are free, the personal information gathered by Mercora is controlled by you, the user, and the company makes money not my inserting commercials in between songs, but by running Google like text ads for CD purchases and ticket sales in your area. It is still in beta, but if you are interested in file sharing without the authorities banging down your door, this is a good way to go.
