If you are using an RSS capable web browser like FireFox, you should see a little orange RSS logo at the bottom right hand corner of your screen while viewing my web blog. It's always there and it tells you that my page is available via RSS (See here for even more details on RSS) .
Think of RSS as an office secretary; a little program that sits on your computer keeping logs when something new has happened so that it can report back to you later. RSS enabled news servers like the BBC News web page can keep you up to date on all that is happening around the world without you even having to log on to their site. The BBC News' RSS feed will update your RSS software with headlines, and some news services will even give you small paragraphs as well. You can also configure an RSS reader to alert you as soon as it has been updated. Like a town crier, your RSS reader will pop up with what's new and you news junkies will get your fix immediately.
There are RSS feeds for newsletters, web logs, corporate sites; it is becoming a very popular tool for the internet. You need only launch your RSS reader to see what's new, thereby eliminating a lot of web surfing.
I found a list of popular RSS readers here , but just switching to FireFox will do the trick too, at least where my web blog is concerned.
Happy reading!
